Staglin's 2017 Chardonnay Estate is polished and understated, almost surprisingly so given the heat of the year. Orchard fruit, white flowers and tropical overtones grace this subtle, nuanced Chardonnay. Work in the vineyards to shade the fruit and not lower yields dramatically, along with aging in 500 and 600L barrels with mostly blocked malolactic fermentation all help preserve freshness and finesse. There is plenty of both in the 2017. -Antonio Galloni, Vinous
